High Winds

  • Keep your car’s gas tank at least half full in case of evacuation. Expect traffic and delays.
  • Never drive around barricades or through floodwaters. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and can sweep away your car. Turn around, don’t drown!
  • Sandbags are available at the Torrance City Yard (20500 Madrona Ave.) on Mondays - Thursdays from 3 - 4 p.m. Call (310) 781-6900 to confirm staff availability.
  • Trim trees and secure loose outdoor items to prevent damage or injury.
  • Flying debris can be deadly. Stay indoors or in a sheltered area, and avoid driving if possible.
  • Stay clear of trees and power lines. Never approach downed power lines or anything in contact with them, like branches or vehicles. Call 911.

Landslides

Power Outages

  • Check your area for weak rocks, steep slopes, and prior runoff/mudflows. Your property is at higher risk.
  • Landslides may occur even days after rain. Stay cautious.
  • It’s the owner’s responsibility to inspect, clean and maintain privately owned paved swales or terrace drains. If you observe poorly maintained drains, report it to Torrance Building & Safety (310) 618-5910.
